The understanding of the evolution of gene diversification should be simplified by studying a single species which is in the process of evolutionary diversification. Mexcan tetra (Astyanax mexicanus), a single species showing eyed surface and eyeless cave dwelling forms, is a suitable model species to study the evolutionary diversification process. “How do cavefishes cope with the dark environment?” and “What types of genes are involved in these changes?” To solve these evolutionary problems, we tried to discover the genes relating to the evolution from the surface form to the cave form by cDNA microarrays. First, a normalized cDNA library was made from an entire body of an eyed adult fish. Next, 9600 clones were sequenced only in 5' direction. After removing redundancy, 3070 clones were finally used for the construction of microarrays. Targe genes for the microarrays were then made from an entire body of each an eyed fish and an eyeless fish. Using these targets, hybridizations were conducted. Here, we would like to show the result of the hybridization; views of Scatter plot and lists of highly expressed genes in each dwelling form.
